Event Email Reminders 

 

About the Project

Our non-profit organizers and campaign managers needed a way to easily send email or text event reminders. I collaborated with product managers and stakeholders to clarify the problems we were solving and to fulfill as many contradicting client needs as possible while adapting to a changing timeline. 



As the project evolved, my design accounted for both the simplest need for a utility reminder and the more advanced need for advanced customizability. Ultimately, the solution included a mixture of template notifications and adaptable stylization.

Mapping out the product universe related to events in our platform illuminated the need for a more robust notification system. 

UX Challenges

The main challenge I encountered during this project was designing a feature that solved disparities in client needs, which were often at odds. Creating this feature with only one user’s core needs in mind would alienate the others. But how could we build a feature that would adequately solve as many user problems as possible?


Additionally, simply fixing the event notifications gap would only add to the 'tech dept' of our events system. As we continued on with user research we realized that differentiating on a few different features would add considerable value to this MVP while not requiring a total overhaul of the events system.

I condensed user research into themes, such as a need for branding, multiple reminder options, and preview capability.

Mapping the timelines that our differing clients used to prepare and notify their attendees helped clarify what level of personalization each would require.

Solution: Quickly coming up with low-fidelity wireframes helped lead our discussions to a more technical conclusion, and ultimately a high-fidelity wireframe that fulfilled accessibility standards and resolved our clients top pain points. 

UX Solutions

Through extensive user research and testing, I came up with a design that best solved the most user needs. We decided upon a standard template that would solve the need for sending out emails quickly by lower-level admins. 

I also added the option for customizability with an advanced wrapper for more expert "power" users. Moreover, we scoped out a further iteration for further customizability down the road.

The final workflow and UI provided solutions for both the beginner user of an email reminder as well as options for advanced users.
